Modifier Lists

Admin

Modifier lists let you define groups of optional add-ons, accessories, or preparation options that can be attached to products. When a budtender selects a product on the POS register, the modifier options appear as selectable add-ons before the item is added to the cart.

Accessing Modifier Lists

  1. Log in to the Admin Panel.
  2. Click Products in the top navigation bar, then navigate to Modifier Lists.
  3. The modifier list page loads, showing all configured lists.

Understanding Modifier Lists

A Modifier List is a named group containing one or more Modifiers. Each modifier has a name and an optional price adjustment.

Example:

Modifier List: "Accessories"
- Papers +$1.50
- Filter Tips +$0.75
- Grinder +$12.00
- None $0.00

Creating a Modifier List

  1. Click New Modifier List.
  2. Fill in the list details:

List Name

A descriptive name for the group.

  • Required: Yes
  • Example: "Accessories", "Preparation Style", "Size Upgrade"

Selection Type and Selection Rules

  • Selection Type -- Choose List (predefined options the budtender picks from) or Text (free-form text input, e.g., for custom instructions).
  • Minimum Selections -- The minimum number of modifiers that must be selected. Set to 0 for optional, or 1 or more to make selection required.
  • Maximum Selections -- The maximum number of modifiers that can be selected. Set to 1 for single-select, or a higher number for multi-select.

Modifiers

Add individual modifiers to the list:

  1. Click Add Modifier.
  2. Enter the modifier name (e.g., "Papers").
  3. Enter the price adjustment:
    • Positive number -- Adds to the product price (e.g., 1.50).
    • Zero -- No price change (e.g., a "None" option).
    • Negative number -- Subtracts from the product price (rare, but available for promotional modifiers).
  4. Repeat for each modifier in the group.
"None" option

For optional modifier lists with the Single selection type, add a "None" or "No thanks" modifier with a $0 price adjustment. This gives the budtender a way to skip the selection.

Sort Order

Modifiers appear in the order listed. Drag and drop to reorder, or set sort order numbers manually.

  1. Click Save Modifier List.

Editing a Modifier List

  1. Click the list name.
  2. Modify the name, selection type, or individual modifiers.
  3. Click Save.
Active orders

Changing modifier prices only affects future sales. Items already in an open cart retain the modifier price at the time they were added.

Adding Modifiers to an Existing List

  1. Open the modifier list.
  2. Click Add Modifier at the bottom of the modifier table.
  3. Enter name and price.
  4. Save.

Removing a Modifier

  1. Open the modifier list.
  2. Click the delete icon next to the modifier.
  3. Confirm.
Historical data

Removing a modifier does not affect historical sales records. Past sales that included the modifier retain the modifier name and price in the sale data.

Assigning Modifier Lists to Products

From the Product Edit Page

  1. Navigate to Products and open a product.
  2. Scroll to the Modifiers section.
  3. Click Add Modifier List.
  4. Select one or more modifier lists from the dropdown.
  5. Save the product.

From the Modifier List Detail Page

  1. Open the modifier list.
  2. Scroll to the Assigned Products section.
  3. Click Assign Products.
  4. Search for and select products.
  5. Save.

How Modifiers Appear on the POS

When a budtender taps a product with assigned modifiers:

  1. A modifier selection dialog appears.
  2. The dialog shows each assigned modifier list as a section.
  3. The budtender selects the applicable modifiers.
  4. The product is added to the cart with the selected modifiers.
  5. The cart shows the product line item with modifiers listed below it.
  6. The total reflects any price adjustments from selected modifiers.

Example Cart Display

Blue Dream 3.5g $32.00
+ Papers +$1.50
+ Filter Tips +$0.75
Subtotal: $34.25

Deleting a Modifier List

To remove a modifier list:

  1. Open the modifier list.
  2. Click Delete.
  3. Confirm the deletion.

Best Practices

  • Keep lists small -- 3-6 modifiers per list is ideal. Too many options slow down checkout.
  • Name clearly -- "Accessories" is better than "Extras." Budtenders should know what the list is about at a glance.
  • Price transparently -- Show the price adjustment clearly. Hidden fees damage trust.
  • Use required selections sparingly -- Only set the minimum selections to 1 or more when it is genuinely necessary for order fulfillment (e.g., choosing a preparation method).
  • Review usage -- If a modifier is never selected, remove it to simplify the POS interface.
