Modifier Lists
Use this page to build the choices the register asks for when an item is rung up — toppings, sauces, milk options, or something to write on a cake — and attach them to products.
Quick steps
To create a list:
- Make sure Enable Product Modifiers is ticked under Settings > Edit Settings > Sales & Integrations > Restaurant & Food Service Features.
- Go to Products, open More Actions and choose Modifier Lists. Click New Modifier List.
- Enter a Name (for example "Toppings"). Set Minimum Selections to 0 for optional or 1 for required, and Maximum Selections to 1 for pick-one.
- Fill in one row per option: Option name and Price (
0for free,1.50to add $1.50). Click Add Option for more rows. - Click Create Modifier List.
To attach it to a product:
- Edit the product and open the Options tab. Expand Modifiers (Optional).
- Under Add Modifier Lists, tick the list and click Update Product.
Common questions
The list doesn't show on the register. Check it's attached and Enabled on the product, isn't retired, and has at least one option.
How do I let staff type something, like a name on a cake? Set Type to Text Input (customer types).
How do I stop offering one option? Edit the list, tick Remove on the option and click Update Modifier List. Tick Bring back later to restore it.
What does "Charges money, moves no stock" mean? The option adds to the price but isn't linked to a product, so your stock count never goes down. Pick the product it uses in Depletes…, or ignore it if nothing is used up.

Modifier lists are groups of choices the register asks for when a product is rung up: a choice of sauce, extra cheese, a milk option, a size upgrade, or something the customer wants written on a cake. One list can be attached to as many products as you like, so "Burger Toppings" only has to be built once.
Modifier lists appear once Enable Product Modifiers is ticked under Settings → Sales & Integrations → Restaurant & Food Service Features. Restaurant stores start with it on. This section isn't shown for cannabis stores.

Opening Modifier Lists
Go to Products, open the More Actions menu, and choose Modifier Lists. You can also get there from Settings → Sales & Integrations, using the Manage Modifier Lists button under Restaurant & Food Service Features.
The page lists every list with its type, selection rules, the first few options and how many products use it.

Creating a Modifier List
Click New Modifier List and fill in the form.
Basic Information

Selection Rules (List type)

| Minimum Selections | 0 makes the list optional. 1 or more makes it required, and the register won't add the item until enough are chosen. |
| Maximum Selections | The most that can be chosen. Leave blank for no limit. Set it to 1 for a pick-one list. |
| Allow quantity selection | Lets the clerk take the same option more than once, for example "2x Extra Shot". The minimum and maximum then count the total number, not the number of different options. |
| All one kind (no mixing) | For something like a bucket of five beers that must all be the same beer. Choosing a second option replaces the first instead of mixing. Needs Allow quantity selection turned on. |
Options
A new list starts with three empty option rows. Fill in one row per choice, and click Add Option if you need more. Rows you leave completely empty are skipped when you save, so you don't have to delete them. Each option row has:

| Depletes… | Optional. The product this option uses up. Start typing a product name and pick it from the suggestions. See Options That Use Up Stock. |
| Qty | How much of that product one use takes, for example 1 slice or 1.5 oz. |
| Hide Online | Keeps this one option off your online store. It still shows on the register. |
| Remove | Takes the option off the menu when you save. See Taking an Option Off the Menu. |
A row you added with Add Option has a trash button instead of Remove. Click it to take the row away before you save.
Options appear on the register, and print on receipts, in the order shown on this form. Use the up and down arrows to change that order, then save.
Click Create Modifier List to save.
For an optional pick-one list, you can add a "No thanks" option priced at $0 so the clerk has something to tap.

Text Input Lists ("Name on cake")
Choose Text Input (customer types) when the customer tells you something to write or engrave instead of picking from options. The option rows and selection rules are hidden, and you get two settings instead:

At the register, the clerk sees a box with the list's name and types what the customer asked for. It then shows the same way everywhere, as the list name followed by what was typed:
Name on cake: Happy 40th Dad
That's how it reads in the cart, on a saved tab, on the customer's receipt and on the kitchen display. Text entries don't change the price.

Options That Use Up Stock
An option can use up stock of another product. Link Bacon (+$2.00) to your bacon product with Qty 1, and every sale with bacon takes one off your bacon count.
- How much comes off: the option's Qty, times how many of that option were chosen, times the item quantity. Three burgers with double bacon take 6.
- On the register: a linked option shows Low Stock (N left) when fewer than 5 uses remain, and Out of Stock (greyed out, can't be tapped) when there isn't enough for one use. A default option that has run out doesn't come pre-selected. If the linked product is set to allow selling below zero, the option never shows as out of stock.
- Voids and returns: voiding the sale, voiding just that line, or returning the item and putting it back into stock puts the option's stock back too.
- What was actually used is recorded on the sale. If you later link the option to a different product or change its Qty (say you switch well tequila brands), a void or return of an older sale puts back what that sale really used, not today's setting.
If the name you type in Depletes… doesn't match any product, the list won't save. You'll be asked to pick one from the suggestions.
"Charges money, moves no stock"
Once saved, an option that adds to the price but has no Depletes… product shows a warning: Charges money, moves no stock. The sale takes the money but your count never goes down, so the gap only shows up at your next stock count.
If a product has the same name as the option, the warning suggests it: Did you mean Extra Cheese (SKU)? It's only a suggestion and nothing is linked until you pick it. Free options, like a choice of dipping sauce, never get this warning.

Editing a Modifier List
- On the Modifier Lists page, click Edit on the list.
- Change the name, rules or options. Use the up and down arrows to reorder options. An empty row is added at the bottom for a new option, and it's skipped if you leave it blank.
- Click Update Modifier List.
Changing an option's price only affects items added from then on. Past sales keep the name and price they were sold at.
Taking an Option Off the Menu
- Edit the list.
- Tick Remove on the option.
- Click Update Modifier List.
The option disappears from the register and your online store. Past sales that included it still show it on their receipts and in reports.
Bringing an Option Back
Options you've removed are listed at the bottom of the edit page under Taken off the menu. Tick Bring back next to the option and save. It comes back with its original price and stock link. Do this instead of typing the option in again, so you don't end up with two "Lettuce" options.
Retiring a Modifier List
Retiring takes a whole list off the menu without losing it.
- On the Modifier Lists page, click Retire on the list. You can also open the list and click Retire This List under Take this list off the menu.
- Confirm.
A retired list:
- Comes off the register, your online store, and every product that used it.
- Stays on past sales, which still print it on receipts.
- Remembers which products it was on.
Restoring a Retired List
Once any list is retired, filters appear above the table: In use, Retired (N) and All.
- Click Retired.
- Click Restore on the list.
The list and its options come back, attached to the same products as before.

Attaching Lists to Products
From the Product Edit Page
- Go to Products and edit the product.
- Open the Options tab and expand Modifiers (Optional).
- Under Add Modifier Lists, tick the lists you want.
- Click Update Product.
Lists already on the product appear at the top, each with an Enabled box. To take a list off this product, untick Enabled and save. You can untick every list if you want the product to have none.
Changing the Order Lists Appear In
When a product has two or more lists, use the up and down arrows beside each list to change their order. The register asks for them in that order, and the page returns you to the Options tab.
While Creating a Product
The new-product wizard has its own Modifiers (Optional) section, so you can attach existing lists as you build the product.
Seeing Which Products Use a List
Click View on a list to open its detail page. Products Using This Modifier List shows each product that uses it, and you can click one to edit it.
How Modifiers Appear at the Register
When a clerk taps a product that has modifier lists, a selection window opens with each list as its own section. The price at the bottom updates as options are chosen. See Modifiers and Variations for the full register walkthrough.

Troubleshooting

Best Practices
- Keep lists short. 3 to 6 options is quick to tap. Long lists slow down the line.
- Link priced options to stock. Anything you charge for and keep on a shelf should use Depletes… so your counts stay right.
- Retire, don't rebuild. Retire lists you use seasonally, then restore them next season.
- Only require what the kitchen needs. Make a list required only when the item can't be made without a choice, such as a sauce or cooking temperature.
- Use Hide from customers for kitchen-only choices like prep instructions the customer doesn't need on their receipt.
