Key Concepts

Before diving in, here are a few terms you will encounter throughout this documentation:

POS Register vs. Admin Panel

Brother POS has two distinct interfaces:

  • POS Register — A Progressive Web App (PWA) optimized for touchscreens. This is where cashiers ring up sales. It works offline if the network drops temporarily.
  • Admin Panel — A full-featured web interface for managing products, inventory, users, reports, and system settings. Accessed through a standard web browser.

Cloud-Hosted

Brother POS runs in the cloud. Each store gets its own subdomain — for example, greenleaf.brotherpos.ca. All your data is completely isolated to your store.

Roles

Every user has a role that determines what they can see and do. See User Roles & Permissions for the full breakdown.

Cannabis-Specific Features

Brother POS includes features tailored for cannabis retail:

  • THC/CBD percentages displayed on products
  • Strain types (Indica, Sativa, Hybrid)
  • Compliance reporting for regulatory bodies (e.g., SLGA in Saskatchewan)
  • Daily purchase limits tracked per customer with equivalent gram calculations
  • Quality tier pricing (AA, AAA, AAAA, AAAA+)
Not a cannabis store?

These features are optional. If your store does not sell cannabis, your admin can disable cannabis-specific features in the store settings. Brother POS works great for general retail too.
