Pawn Loans at the Register

Cashier Manager

Use this page to look up, take payment on and write pawn loans right from the register.

Quick steps

To take a payment on a loan:

  1. Tap the Pawn loans button in the register's top bar (the bank-building icon).
  2. On Find / Service, scan the barcode on the borrower's pawn ticket, or type the loan number, customer name or serial number. Tap the loan.
  3. Pick how the customer is paying from the drop-down (cash, debit, etransfer or credit).
  4. Tap Redeem $… to pay it off, Renew $… to pay the interest for more time, or type an amount in Partial principal $ and tap Pay.

To write a loan:

  1. Tap Pawn loans, then the New Loan tab.
  2. Pick or type the Customer, fill in the collateral (description, Condition, Serial #) and Principal $.
  3. Pick Paid out by, fill in ID type and ID number, and have the borrower sign.
  4. Tap Write Loan, then Print ticket.
note

Cash goes in and out of this register's drawer, so the drawer must be open.

More detail: what the Pawn loans window has

When pawn loans are switched on, the register's top bar has a Pawn loans button (a bank-building icon; hover or long-press shows its name). It opens a window with two tabs:

  • Find / Service — look up a loan and take a payment on it.
  • New Loan — write a quick loan at the counter.

Anyone signed in to the register can use it.

More detail: finding and servicing a loan

Find a Loan

The Find / Service tab opens with your active loans listed. Each shows the loan number, the customer, the maturity date, today's payoff and a status tag (Active, Overdue, Ready, Hold, or the closed status such as Redeemed).

To find a specific loan, type in the search box and press Enter or tap the search button. It matches:

  • the loan number — or scan the barcode on the borrower's pawn ticket,
  • the customer's name,
  • a serial number.

A search looks through all loans, including redeemed and forfeited ones. Tap a loan to open it.

Service a Loan

The open loan shows its number, the customer, the Payoff, Principal, Outstanding, Interest and Maturity, and the collateral with serial numbers.

While the loan is open (active), you can take money on it. First choose how the customer is paying from the drop-down: cash, debit, etransfer or credit. Then:

ButtonWhat it does
Redeem $…Collects the full payoff and closes the loan as redeemed. Hand the items back.
Renew $…Collects the interest owed and starts a new term from today. Any renewal fee your store charges is added on top.
PayType an amount in Partial principal $ and tap Pay to pay down the principal. It can't be more than the outstanding principal. It does not collect interest.

These work exactly like the admin loan page — see Redeeming, Renewing and Forfeiting for what each one changes. Cash taken here goes into this register's drawer and appears on its Z-report as Pawn Cash In. The register's drawer has to be open to take cash.

If the loan is on police hold, the window says "On police hold — redemption/forfeit blocked."

Print ticket at the top prints the pawn ticket through the register's printer. If no printer is connected you'll see "No printer connected".

Forfeiting, police holds and voiding are done from the admin loan page, not the register.

Write a Loan at the Register

The New Loan tab is a shorter version of the admin form.

  1. Customer — start typing to search your customers and tap one. If they aren't a customer yet, type their name and, optionally, a Walk-in phone; a new customer is created with the loan.
  2. Collateral — an item description, Condition and Serial # for each item, with optional Categories. Tap Add item for more rows, or the X to remove one.
  3. Principal $, Rate/mo and Term (d) — leave the rate and term blank to use your store defaults. The same legal rate caps apply as on the admin form. Once you enter a principal and a rate, the window shows the approximate first-month payoff.
  4. Paid out by — how the borrower gets their money: Cash (from this drawer), Debit, E-transfer or Cheque. It starts on cash. A cash advance is taken off this register's drawer and shows on its Z-report as Pawn Advances, so the register's drawer must be open.
  5. ID type and ID number.
  6. Borrower signature.
  7. Tap Write Loan.

The loan opens in the Find / Service tab, ready to print its ticket.

The register form doesn't have the ID expiry, date of birth, grace days or the ID and customer photos. Use the admin form when you need those on record.

Troubleshooting

"This register's cash drawer isn't open." You chose cash but this register's drawer is closed. Open the drawer, or pick a different way to pay.
