Tasks, Inputs and Feed Recipes
Use this page to plan grow tasks, keep a list of your nutrients and supplies, and log what each batch was fed.
Quick steps
To add a task:
- Go to Cultivation → Tasks and click New Task.
- Type a Title, pick the Task Type, and optionally the Plant Batch, Grow Room, Assigned To and Due Date. Set Repeat for jobs that come back.
- Click Create Task. Later, click Complete (or Skip) when it's done.
To feed a whole room at once:
- Go to Cultivation → More → Feed a Room.
- Pick the Room and the Input / Nutrient, type the Quantity per Batch, and add pH In / pH Out and EC In / EC Out if you took them.
- Click Feed All Batches in Room.
To log one feed quickly:
- Go to Cultivation → More → Quick Input Log.
- Pick the batch and input, type the Amount, and tap Log It. It comes straight back for the next one.
Every feed you log adds its cost to the batch, which ends up in the harvest's cost per gram. Set a Cost per Unit on each input under Cultivation → More → Inputs.
Common questions
An input isn't in the list when I log a feed. It's inactive. Edit it under Inputs and tick Active.
A feed shows $0. That input has no Cost per Unit. Edit it and add one.
Can I save a nutrient mix I use every week? Yes — make a feed recipe under Cultivation → More → Feed Recipes, then use Apply to Room on it.
More detail: tasks and the Task Board
This is the daily work of the grow: the jobs that need doing, the nutrients and supplies you use, and the record of what each batch was fed. Every feed you log also adds to the batch's cost, which ends up in the harvest's cost per gram.
Tasks
Cultivation → Tasks (titled Grow Tasks) is your to-do list for the grow. It opens on Pending tasks, most urgent first. Filter by Status (Pending, In Progress, Completed, Skipped or All), Room and Batch.
Creating a task
Click New Task:
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Title | Required, e.g. Water Flower Room A. |
| Task Type | Required. Water, Feed, IPM, Transplant, Prune, Defoliate, Flip, Harvest, Clean or Other. |
| Plant Batch | Optional. Leave as None (general task) for jobs that aren't about one batch. |
| Grow Room | Optional. |
| Assigned To | Optional. Any active staff member. |
| Due Date | Defaults to today. |
| Priority | Normal, High or Urgent. |
| Repeat | Optional. Every day, Every few days, Every week, Every 2 weeks or Every month. Leave on Doesn't repeat for a one-off job. |
| Every how many days | Only for Every few days, e.g. 3. |
| Description | What needs doing. |
| Notes | Anything else. |
Working a task
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Start | Marks a pending task In Progress, so it moves to that column on the Task Board. |
| Complete | Marks it done and records who completed it and when. |
| Skip | For a job that isn't needed this time. The task is marked Skipped and drops off the to-do list. |
Start and Skip are on the task's own page and on the Task Board cards; Complete is there and on the task list. You can also tick tasks off with Done on the Cultivation Dashboard — you stay on the dashboard, so you can clear several in a row.
When a repeating task is completed or skipped, the next one is created straight away with the next due date — for example a weekly task due Monday that you complete on Tuesday comes back due the following Monday.
The Task Board
Click Task Board on the Tasks page for a column view:
| Column | What's in it |
|---|---|
| Overdue | Unfinished tasks past their due date. |
| Pending | Not started, due today or later (or with no due date). |
| In Progress | Tasks marked in progress. |
| Completed | The last 20 completed tasks. |
Each card shows the batch, room, who it's assigned to and the due date, with Start (on pending tasks), Skip and Complete buttons. Click List View to go back.
More detail: your inputs list
Inputs
Cultivation → More → Inputs (titled Grow Inputs) is your list of nutrients, soil, amendments, pest control and other grow supplies. Click Add Input:
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Name | Required, e.g. CalMag Plus. Must be unique. |
| Type | Required. Nutrient, Soil, Amendment, Pest Control, Supply or Other. |
| Unit | Required. ml, g, L, kg or unit — whatever you measure it in when you use it. |
| Cost per Unit ($) | What one unit costs you. This is what puts a dollar figure on each feed. |
| Current Stock | How much you have on hand, in the same unit. |
| Brand | e.g. General Hydroponics. |
| Notes | Usage instructions, mixing ratios. |
| Active | Untick to hide it from the logging forms. |
Every time you log an input, its cost is the quantity times the Cost per Unit, and the quantity is taken off Current Stock (it never goes below zero). An input that has been logged can't be deleted — untick Active instead.
If you buy CalMag by the litre but dose it in ml, set the unit to ml and the cost per ml. Then logging "40" means 40 ml and the cost comes out right.
More detail: every way to log feeds and inputs
Logging Feeds and Inputs
There are four ways to log an input, depending on how much you're doing at once.
One batch, from the batch page
Open a batch and click Log Input in its Input Log section. The batch is already picked; fill in Input, Quantity Used, Date Applied and any Notes, then click Log Input Application. You're taken to the Input / Feeding Log.
The Input / Feeding Log
The Input / Feeding Log page (Cultivation → More → Input / Feeding Log) is where each logged application lands. It lists input applications newest first, 100 to a page, with the batch, input, quantity, pH and EC readings (in → out), cost and who logged it. Filter by Plant Batch, Input, From and To. The total at the bottom — Total cost (all N matching entries) — adds up every entry that matches your filters, not just the page you're looking at.
From here you also have:
- Log Input — the same one-batch form as above.
- Quick Log (also Cultivation → More → Quick Input Log) — a stripped-down form (Select Batch, Select Input, Amount, Date, Notes) with a big Log It button. After each entry it comes straight back, ready for the next one.
- Feed Room (also Cultivation → More → Feed a Room) — see below.
Feed a whole room
Feed Room (titled Feed Entire Room) logs the same input to every active batch in a room in one go:
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Room | The room you fed. |
| Input / Nutrient | What you fed. |
| Quantity per Batch | How much each batch got. |
| Date | Defaults to today. |
| pH In / pH Out | Optional. Your runoff readings. |
| EC In / EC Out | Optional. |
| Notes | Optional. |
Click Feed All Batches in Room. One log entry is created per batch, each with the full quantity — so feeding 3 batches with 500 ml each takes 1,500 ml off stock. The page also lists every room's active batches so you can check what you're about to feed.
pH and EC readings entered here show up on each batch's Grow Journal and in the Input / Feeding Log.
More detail: feed recipes
Feed Recipes
A feed recipe is a saved mix — Veg Week 3 - Heavy Feed — so you don't have to log each nutrient separately every time.
Creating a recipe
Go to Cultivation → More → Feed Recipes and click New Recipe:
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Recipe Name | Required, e.g. Veg Week 3 - Heavy Feed. |
| Phase | The phase it's for, or Any Phase. |
| Week Number | Optional, e.g. 3. |
| Active | Untick to retire the recipe. |
| Notes | Mixing instructions. |
Under Recipe Items, add one row per input: pick the Input, and fill in Qty / Gallon, Qty / Plant, or both. Click + Add Item for more rows, Remove (or tick Del on an existing item) to take one out. Click Create Recipe.
The Feed Recipes list shows each recipe's phase, week, how many items it has and whether it's active.
Applying a recipe to a room
- Open the recipe.
- Under Apply to Room, pick the room. Each room is listed with its number of active batches.
- If the recipe has any per-gallon amounts, enter Gallons per batch — how much feed water each batch got.
- Click Apply Recipe and confirm.
Brother POS logs every item in the recipe against every active batch in that room, dated today. The amount logged is the real amount used:
- An item with a Qty / Plant is multiplied by the batch's current plant count. 5 ml per plant on a 10-plant batch logs 50 ml.
- An item with only a Qty / Gallon is multiplied by the gallons you entered. 2 ml per gallon with 10 gallons logs 20 ml.
The log note shows the working, e.g. Applied from recipe: Veg Week 3 (5/plant × 10 plants), and the stock and cost follow the full amount.
More detail: troubleshooting and good habits
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Likely cause and fix |
|---|---|
| An input isn't in the logging list | It's inactive. Edit it and tick Active. |
| Feed cost shows $0 | The input has no Cost per Unit. |
| Current Stock went to 0 but I still have some | Logs took more than was recorded as on hand. Edit the input and correct Current Stock. |
| "Must specify quantity per gallon or per plant" | Every recipe item needs at least one quantity. |
| "No active batches in (room)" | The room you applied a recipe to has no active batches. |
| "Enter how many gallons each batch got" | The recipe has per-gallon amounts. Fill in Gallons per batch and apply again. |
| A task isn't on the dashboard | The dashboard only shows unfinished tasks due today or earlier. Future tasks are on the Tasks tab. |
Best Practices
- Log every feed. Unlogged feeds make your cost per gram look better than it is, and leave gaps in the Grow Journal.
- Keep Current Stock honest by correcting it when you take delivery or do a count.
- Use Feed Room for runoff readings — it and the grow room display's Quick Feed Log are the only forms that record pH and EC.
