Strains, Mothers and Clones
Use this page to add your strains, keep track of your mother plants, and record each round of cuttings so every clone gets its own plant tag.
Quick steps
To add a strain:
- Go to Cultivation → Strains and click Add Strain.
- Type the Name, pick the Type, and fill in Typical veg days and Typical flower days. Click Create Strain.
To add a mother plant:
- Go to Cultivation → More → Mothers and click Add Mother Plant.
- Type a Name, pick her Strain and Room, and click Create Mother Plant.
To take cuttings and move them to veg:
- Go to Cultivation → More → Clones and click New Clone Batch.
- Pick the Mother Plant, the Room (and Table if you use them), type the Quantity Taken, and click Create Clone Batch. Every cutting gets its own tag.
- When they've rooted, click Edit, set Status to Rooted and save. Then click Promote to Veg and confirm.
Common questions
I can't delete a strain or a mother. One with history can't be deleted. Untick Active on the strain, or click Retire on the mother.
There's no Promote to Veg button. The clone batch's status isn't Rooted yet. Edit it and change the status.
A cutting died. How do I record it? Open the clone batch, then mark that plant dead from its own page (or with Dead on the table grid). The batch's counts update.
More detail: strains and the strain scorecard
This is the start of the chain. A strain is the genetics. A mother is a plant of that strain you take cuttings from. A clone batch is one round of cuttings off a mother — and every cutting in it gets its own plant tag, so you can follow it all the way to harvest.
Strains
Cultivation → Strains (titled Strains / Genetics) is your genetics library. Search by name or filter by Type to find one. Click Add Strain to create a strain.
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Name | Required, e.g. Pink Kush. |
| Type | Indica, Sativa or Hybrid. |
| Breeder | e.g. Barney's Farm. |
| Link to Catalog Strain | Optional. Pick the matching strain from the built-in Strain Library, or leave it as None (standalone). |
| Typical flower days | e.g. 56. |
| Typical veg days | e.g. 28. |
| Typical Yield (g/plant) | What you expect per plant. |
| Lineage | e.g. OG Kush x Bubba Kush. |
| Grow notes | Growing tips, feeding, training notes. |
| Notes | Anything else. |
| Active | Untick to retire the strain. |
When you create a batch without an expected harvest date, Brother POS works one out from the start date plus the strain's typical veg and flower days. If those are blank it assumes 21 days of veg and 56 days of flower.
The strain scorecard
Click a strain to see its Strain Scorecard:
| Figure | What it means |
|---|---|
| Avg Yield/Plant | Final grams harvested divided by the plants in those batches. |
| Avg Cost/Gram | The average cost per gram across its harvests. |
| Avg Days to Harvest | From batch start to harvest, across finished batches. |
| Total Harvested | All final grams to date. |
Only harvests that have been transferred to inventory count towards yield, cost per gram and total harvested. Avg Days to Harvest uses the strain's batches that have been advanced to Done. Below the figures you'll see the strain's details, its active mother plants, its active batches and its ten most recent harvests.
Retiring and deleting strains
A strain that has batches or mother plants can't be deleted — untick Active instead. Inactive strains drop off the Strains list and out of the pick lists for new batches.
More detail: mother plants
Mother Plants
Cultivation → More → Mothers lists your mother plants with their strain, room, status, where they came from, how many clones have been taken, the last clone date and their clone Survival Rate.
Click Add Mother Plant:
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Name | Required, e.g. OG Kush Mother #1. |
| Code | Optional, e.g. MOM-OGK-001. |
| Strain | Required. The mother's strain. |
| Room | Where she lives — usually a Mother room. |
| Source | Seed, Clone or Purchased. |
| Acquired Date | When you got or started her. |
| Health Notes | Current health, issues you've seen. |
| Notes | Anything else. |
Open a mother to see her Total Clones Taken, Avg Survival Rate and every clone batch cut from her, with a New Clone Batch button.
When a mother is past her best, click Retire. She keeps her history but is marked retired. A mother with clone batches can't be deleted — retire her instead.
If a mother's clones used to root at 90% and are now rooting at 60%, she's telling you something. The Clone Survival report lays this out by mother, strain and quarter.

Clone Batches
Cultivation → More → Clones lists each round of cuttings with its batch code, mother, cut date, how many were taken, survived and died, the survival rate and status.
Taking cuttings
Click New Clone Batch:
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Mother Plant | Required. Only active (not retired) mothers are listed. The strain comes from the mother. |
| Room | Where the cuttings are rooting. |
| Table | Optional. The table they're on. |
| Quantity Taken | Required. How many cuttings. |
| Cut Date | Required. Defaults to today. |
| Notes | Rooting medium, humidity settings, observations. |
New batches start as Rooting. When you later Edit the batch, a few more fields appear: Quantity Survived, Quantity Dead, Rooted Date and Status (Rooting, Rooted, Transplanted or Failed).
When you save, Brother POS:
- gives the batch a code like CLN-20260930-001 (the cut date plus a running number),
- creates one individual plant per cutting, each with its own tag (PLT-0001, PLT-0002 and so on), and
- if you picked a table that has rows and positions, puts each new plant in the next free spot on the table grid. If the table fills up, the rest are left unplaced.
The confirmation reads, for example, Clone batch created with 24 individual plants.
Recording losses
Open the clone batch to see its Individual Plants. When a cutting dies, mark that plant dead (from its own page, or with Dead on the table grid). The batch's Dead and Survived counts update to match.
You can also type the survived and dead counts in by hand with Edit if you'd rather not track each cutting.
Promote to Veg
Once the cuttings have rooted:
- Edit the clone batch and set Status to Rooted.
- Open it and click Promote to Veg, then confirm.
Brother POS creates a new plant batch from the surviving clones — same strain, room and table, starting today in the Veg phase — moves the live plants into it, and marks the clone batch Transplanted. You land on the new batch. Its veg clock and room costs start today. If the plants are going into a different room, edit the batch and pick the veg room the same day, so the veg phase is costed in that room. See Batches and Plants.
The plant count on the new batch is the number of plants still alive in the clone batch. If you didn't track individual deaths, it uses Quantity Survived instead, or Quantity Taken if that's blank too.
Clone batches can't be deleted, so there's always a record of every cut.
More detail: troubleshooting
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Likely cause and fix |
|---|---|
| No Promote to Veg button | The clone batch's status isn't Rooted. Edit it and change the status. |
| "Cannot delete strain that has associated batches or mother plants" | Untick Active instead of deleting. |
| A mother won't delete | She has clone batches. Use Retire. |
| Clones were created but not placed on the table | The table has no rows and positions set, or it was already full. |
| Strain missing from the batch form | The strain is inactive. Edit it and tick Active. |
| Survival rate shows N/A | Quantity Survived hasn't been filled in on any of that mother's clone batches yet. |
