Product Display Settings
Product display settings control which product attributes are visible to cashiers in the POS register and on printed labels. These settings are especially important for cannabis dispensaries, where customers rely on detailed product information to make purchasing decisions.

Accessing Product Display Settings
- Log in to the Admin Panel.
- Click Settings in the top navigation bar.
- Click Edit Settings, then click the Products & Inventory tab.
Cannabis-Specific Fields
These toggles control the visibility of cannabis-specific product information throughout Brother POS.
THC/CBD Content
Setting: Show THC/CBD
When enabled, THC and CBD percentages are displayed:
- On the POS product card and detail view
- On printed product labels
- In the admin product list
- In product search results
THC and CBD content is one of the most-requested pieces of information by cannabis customers. Unless your store does not sell cannabis products, keep this enabled.
Strain Type
Setting: Show Strain Type
When enabled, the strain classification (Indica, Sativa, Hybrid) appears on product cards and labels.
Strain types help customers quickly identify the general effect profile of a product.
Effects
Setting: Show Effects
When enabled, the effects tags (e.g., Relaxed, Energetic, Creative, Uplifted) appear on product detail views.
Effects are configured per product in the product editor and drawn from the effects library.
Medical Benefits
Setting: Show Medical Benefits
When enabled, medical benefit tags (e.g., Pain Relief, Anxiety, Insomnia) appear on product detail views.
Some jurisdictions restrict medical claims on recreational cannabis products. Consult your local regulations before enabling this display. Even if the data is in your system, you can hide it from the POS by turning this toggle off.
Dominant Terpene
Setting: Show Dominant Terpene
When enabled, the dominant terpene (e.g., Myrcene, Limonene, Caryophyllene) appears on product cards.
Terpene information helps knowledgeable customers select products by aroma and effect profile.
Product Card Layout
These settings affect how product cards appear in the POS register grid view.
What Shows on Each Card
A product card in the POS can display:
| Element | Always Shown | Togglable |
|---|---|---|
| Product name | Yes | No |
| Price | Yes | No |
| Category | Yes | No |
| Product image | Yes | No |
| THC/CBD | No | Yes |
| Strain type | No | Yes |
| Dominant terpene | No | Yes |
Stock Display Threshold
Setting: stock_display_threshold
Stock visibility is controlled by the stock_display_threshold setting, which is a number field. When a product's stock is above this threshold, the stock level is hidden from non-admin users. When stock drops below the threshold, it becomes visible. This is not a simple show/hide toggle -- it is a threshold-based control that helps draw attention to low-stock items without cluttering the display when stock levels are healthy.
Products at zero stock can still appear in the POS (they are not automatically hidden). To prevent selling out-of-stock products, configure your low stock alerts under Inventory > Low Stock Alerts.
Product Detail View
When a cashier taps a product card in the POS, a detail view opens. The detail view shows all enabled fields:
- Product name and description
- Price (and tiered pricing if applicable)
- THC/CBD percentages (if enabled)
- Strain type (if enabled)
- Effects list (if enabled)
- Medical benefits (if enabled)
- Dominant terpene (if enabled)
- Product images (gallery view)
- Available variations (sizes, weights)
- Current stock level (if enabled)
Quality Tiers
Setting: Use Quality Tiers
When enabled, quality tier badges (AA, AAA, AAAA, AAAA+) appear on product cards and in the product detail view. Quality tiers are commonly used for cannabis flower to indicate grade.
Quality tiers also integrate with tiered pricing, where different quality levels have different price points. See Quality Tiers for configuration details.
Weight Presets
Setting: Use Weight Presets
When enabled, weight preset buttons (e.g., 1g, 3.5g, 7g, 14g, 28g) appear in the POS when adding a weight-based product to the cart. This speeds up the checkout process for cannabis flower and other products sold by weight.
Weight presets are configured globally under Cannabis > Weight Presets.
How Changes Take Effect
- Toggle the desired settings on or off.
- Click Save at the bottom of the page.
- Changes take effect immediately in the POS register. Cashiers do not need to refresh their screen -- the next product they view will reflect the updated settings.
Not every store needs every field. A general retail store that sells some accessories would turn off all cannabis fields. A cannabis dispensary would turn most on. A health-focused dispensary might enable medical benefits while a recreational-only shop might hide them.
Impact on Other Features
| Feature | Affected By Display Settings? |
|---|---|
| POS product cards | Yes -- only enabled fields appear |
| POS product detail | Yes -- only enabled fields appear |
| Printed labels | Yes -- label templates use enabled fields |
| Admin product list | Partially -- admin always shows all fields in the edit view |
| WooCommerce sync | No -- all data syncs regardless of display settings |
| CSV export | No -- all fields export regardless of display settings |
Common Questions
Do display settings affect my product data? No. Turning off a display setting hides the field from the POS view but does not delete the data. You can turn it back on at any time and the data will reappear.
Can I show different fields on different registers? No. Product display settings apply store-wide to all registers and all users.
What if I enable a field but no products have that data? The field will simply be blank on product cards. There is no error -- it just shows nothing. You can populate the data by editing individual products in Products > Edit Product.
