The Delivery App & Modes

Manager Driver

TrafficDelivery is the single app that powers your in-house deliveries. Rather than separate driver and dispatcher tools, it's one app with three modes -- Driver, Dispatcher, and Both -- so the right surface appears for whoever signs in. A dedicated driver runs in Driver mode; back-office staff run Dispatcher mode; a one-person operation runs Both mode and never has to switch.

Feature flag required

Delivery requires Enable Local Delivery (enable_local_delivery) on the store.

How It Mounts

The delivery app is part of the same Brother POS app bundle, selected at launch:

  • Native app -- the TrafficDelivery iOS/Android build boots straight into delivery mode. Users enter the store code, then sign in with their normal Brother POS email and password. This build adds device location, push notifications, and one-tap SMS/navigation.
  • Browser -- append ?display=delivery to your store's POS URL (for example https://yourstore.brotherpos.ca/pos?display=delivery) to open the same app in a browser. Handy for a desktop dispatcher view or a quick preview.

Sign-in uses each person's existing Brother POS account. Only delivery-capable roles (Driver, Manager, Admin, Super Admin) can use it -- see Drivers.

The Three Modes

Open the ⚙ Settings button in the app header to pick a mode. Your choice is remembered on that device.

ModeWho it's forWhat you see
DriverDedicated delivery staffYour stops, route optimization, navigation, deliver/COD. Customer texts are routed to your dispatcher.
DispatcherBack-office / front-counter staffThe live feed, assign board, and a map of every driver. No driving controls.
BothSolo operators (owner-driver)Everything on one screen: your own route and the assign board, feed, and map. You text customers from your own phone.

The header always shows your current mode. Both mode is described in the app as "drive your own stops and dispatch to others from one screen."

Choosing a mode
  • One person doing it all? Use Both.
  • A driver who only drives? Use Driver so customer texts go through whoever is dispatching.
  • Someone at the store coordinating drivers? Use Dispatcher.

What Each Mode Does

  • Driver mode -- the full driver workflow: claim or receive stops, optimize, navigate, notify, arrive, mark delivered, and collect COD cash. See The Driver App.
  • Dispatcher mode -- assign drivers, watch a real-time feed, fire customer "almost there" texts from a burner phone, and see every active stop on a live map. See Dispatcher Console.
  • Both mode -- combines them into one workspace with tabs for My Route, Available, Dispatch, and Map -- so a solo operator drives and dispatches without ever toggling modes.

Switching Between TrafficPOS and TrafficDelivery

If your store runs both the TrafficPOS register app and the TrafficDelivery app on the same device, an optional app switcher lets staff jump between them with one tap:

  • In TrafficPOS, a truck button opens TrafficDelivery.
  • In TrafficDelivery, a POS ↗ button opens TrafficPOS.
Optional, native-only

The app switcher only appears when both apps are installed (native), and when the app switcher feature is enabled for your store. It's off by default -- ask your administrator to turn it on if you want it.

Best Practices

  • Set the mode once per device -- a shared dispatch tablet in Dispatcher mode, each driver's phone in Driver mode.
  • Use Both for solo shifts -- if one person covers both jobs on a slow day, Both mode avoids constant toggling.
  • Install the native app for real driving -- the browser version is fine for dispatch, but drivers want the native app for location, navigation, and push.
