Packing Slips

Admin

Packing slips are printed documents included with delivery and shipped orders. They list the order contents, customer information, and any special instructions. Packing slips help your team verify that the correct items are packed and give the customer a record of what they ordered.

When to Use Packing Slips

Packing slips are generated for:

  • Local delivery orders -- Included in the delivery bag for the driver to hand to the customer.
  • Shipped orders -- Included inside the shipping package.
  • Curbside pickup -- Attached to the order bag for staff to verify before handing off.

Accessing Packing Slips

Packing slips are accessed from the Order Detail Page:

  1. Navigate to Orders and open a specific order.
  2. Click Print Packing Slip in the actions toolbar.

What's on a Packing Slip

A standard packing slip includes:

  • Store name and logo
  • Store address and contact information
  • Order number and date

Customer Information

  • Customer name
  • Delivery or shipping address
  • Phone number
  • Any delivery instructions entered by the customer

No prices on packing slips by default

Packing slips do not show prices by default. This is a common preference for delivery orders where a receipt is sent separately.

  • Special instructions or notes
  • "Packed by" field (filled in by the packer)
  • Barcode of the order number (for scanning)

Printing Packing Slips

Single Order

  1. Open the order.
  2. Click Print Packing Slip.
  3. The packing slip is sent to the configured thermal printer for output.
Thermal printer output

Packing slips are formatted for thermal printer output, similar to receipts. They print on your configured receipt or label printer, not a standard office printer.

PDF Download

If you need to save packing slips digitally:

  1. Open the print preview.
  2. Instead of printing, choose Save as PDF from the print dialog.
  3. Save the file for your records.

Packing Workflow

A recommended workflow for packing delivery and shipping orders:

Step 1: Print Packing Slips

Print packing slips for each order as they are prepared.

Step 2: Pick Items

Use the packing slip as a picking list. Gather all items listed on each slip.

Step 3: Verify

Check each item against the packing slip. Confirm quantities and variations match.

Step 4: Pack

Place items and the packing slip in the delivery bag or shipping box.

Step 5: Sign Off

Write the packer's initials in the "Packed by" field on the slip. This creates accountability.

Step 6: Dispatch

  • For local delivery: Add the packed order to the appropriate route.
  • For shipping: Apply the shipping label and hand off to the carrier.

Reprinting a Packing Slip

If a packing slip is damaged or lost:

  1. Navigate to the order detail page.
  2. Click Print Packing Slip.
  3. The slip is regenerated with the same information.

Packing slips can be reprinted at any time, regardless of order status.

Best Practices

  • Always include a packing slip -- Even if the customer receives a digital receipt, a physical packing slip helps verify order accuracy.
  • Use the "Packed by" field -- If a packing error is reported, you can trace it back to the packer.
  • Check your printer -- Test print a packing slip after changing settings to verify formatting.
  • Archive for compliance -- In regulated industries, keep copies of packing slips as part of your audit trail.
