Sale Campaigns and Freebies
Brother POS supports two types of promotional campaigns that can run automatically at the register: sale campaigns that offer percentage or dollar discounts, and freebie campaigns that give customers free items when they reach a spend threshold.

Sale Campaigns
Sale campaigns are time-bound promotions created by admins that offer discounts on the order. They run between a start date and end date and appear automatically in the POS during that period.
How Sale Campaigns Appear
Active sale campaigns show up in two places:
- In the Discount Modal -- when you tap the Discount button, active campaigns are listed at the top under "Active Promotions" before the manual discount options.
- In the Cart Totals -- when a campaign discount is applied, it appears as a promotion discount line in the totals breakdown.
Applying a Sale Campaign
- Add items to the cart as usual.
- Tap the Discount button.
- Active campaigns appear at the top of the discount modal, each showing:
- Campaign name (e.g., "Summer Sale")
- Description with the discount details
- Discount type icon (percentage or dollar amount)
- Tap a campaign to select it.
- The discount type and value are auto-filled.
- The campaign name is automatically set as the discount reason.
- Tap Apply Discount to apply it to the order.
You can switch between a campaign discount and a manual discount using the Manual discount / Back to promotions links at the bottom of each section.
Campaign Properties
Each sale campaign is configured by an admin with:
| Property | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | Display name shown at the register |
| Discount type | Percentage or fixed dollar amount |
| Discount value | The percentage (e.g., 15%) or dollar amount (e.g., $5.00) |
| Start date | When the campaign becomes active |
| End date | When the campaign expires |
| Display text | Optional description shown to the cashier |
| Product targeting | Which products or categories the campaign applies to (optional) |
Campaign Rules
- Only campaigns within their active date range appear at the POS.
- A campaign discount replaces any existing order discount (you cannot stack multiple order-level discounts).
- Campaign discounts are recorded with the campaign name as the reason for reporting and audit purposes.
- Campaigns can be created and managed in the admin panel under Pricing & Campaigns > Sale Campaigns.
Freebie Campaigns
Freebie campaigns automatically give customers a free product when their cart subtotal reaches a specified threshold. This is a "spend X, get Y free" promotion.
How Freebies Work
- An admin creates a freebie campaign specifying:
- Spend threshold -- the minimum subtotal to qualify (e.g., $50.00)
- Freebie product -- the product given for free (e.g., "Rolling Papers")
- Freebie quantity -- how many of the free product to give (e.g., 1)
- When the campaign is active and the cart subtotal meets or exceeds the threshold, the freebie product is automatically added to the cart with a price of $0.00.
- If items are removed and the subtotal drops below the threshold, the freebie is automatically removed.
Freebie Progress Bar
When a freebie campaign is active but the cart has not yet reached the threshold, a progress bar appears above the cart totals:
- The bar shows how close the customer is to qualifying.
- A message reads something like: "Spend $12.50 more to get: 1x Rolling Papers FREE"
- The progress bar fills as items are added.
- Once the threshold is met, the progress bar disappears and the free item appears in the cart.

The freebie progress bar is a great upselling tool. Let the customer know they are close to earning a free item -- it often encourages them to add one more product to their order.
How Freebies Display in the Cart
Freebie items appear in the cart with:
- The product name
- A FREE badge indicating the item costs nothing
- A quantity matching the campaign's freebie quantity
- A line total of $0.00
Freebie items cannot be manually removed from the cart -- they are managed automatically by the freebie system. They disappear if the subtotal drops below the threshold.
Multiple Freebie Campaigns
Multiple freebie campaigns can be active simultaneously with different thresholds. For example:
| Campaign | Threshold | Freebie |
|---|---|---|
| Free Rolling Papers | $50.00 | 1x Rolling Papers |
| Free Lighter | $100.00 | 1x BIC Lighter |
As the cart grows, customers can qualify for multiple freebies. The progress bar always shows the next unearned freebie (the one with the lowest unmet threshold).
Freebie on Receipts
Freebie items print on the receipt with a $0.00 price. They are clearly distinguishable from purchased items so the customer can see the promotion was applied.
Promotion Discounts in Cart Totals
When promotions are applied, the cart totals section shows the discount breakdown:
| Totals Line | When It Appears |
|---|---|
| Promotion Discount | When a sale campaign or auto-applied promotion reduces the order total |
| Promotion Applied | The name of the applied promotion |
These lines appear alongside any other discounts (order discount, tier discount, loyalty discount) so the customer can see exactly where their savings come from.
Declining a Promotion
If the server auto-applies a promotion discount, a small X button appears next to it in the cart totals. Tap it to decline the promotion for this sale. This is useful if a different discount would benefit the customer more, or if the promotion was applied in error.
Campaign vs. Manual Discounts
| Feature | Sale Campaign | Manual Discount |
|---|---|---|
| Created by | Admin in admin panel | Cashier/manager at the register |
| Date-bound | Yes (start and end date) | No (one-time use) |
| Auto-suggested | Yes (appears in discount modal) | No |
| Audit trail | Campaign name recorded | Optional reason field |
| Manager override needed | No | Yes (for cashiers without discount permission) |
| Stackable with freebies | Yes | Yes |
Sale campaign discounts and manual order discounts cannot be stacked on the same order. Applying one replaces the other. However, both can coexist with freebie campaigns since freebies add items at $0 rather than discounting the total.
Setting Up Campaigns
Campaigns are created and managed by admins in the admin panel:
